History of Our Park
Big 4 Gold Coast Holiday Park (GCHP) is owned and run by Norton Whitmont OAM and Theo Whitmont, a father-son duo who have dedicated over thirty years of their professional and voluntary lives to the tourist industry.
GCHP first opened its doors thirty years ago. On March 18, 1993, the Albert Shire Council approved it as Gardenvale Caravan Park While the current BIG4 park is vastly different from its origins as Gardenvale, it still retains some of the community-oriented atmosphere that made traditional caravan parks popular. During the past 12 years under Whitmont ownership, the modest off-highway caravan park with just three employees has grown into a thriving tourism business with 150 employees working across seven departments (Guest Services, Groups, Entertainment/Activities, Housekeeping, Food/Beverage, Maintenance, and Sales/Marketing).
Joining the BIG4 network brought significant benefits. BIG4’s strong brand recognition, marketing reach, and reputation for high standards helped to draw more visitors, particularly families and international tourists who were seeking a resort-like experience without the high costs of staying in beachfront hotels.
The park’s redevelopment and rebranding signalled a shift in the caravan park industry from basic, budget-oriented offerings to more diverse and high-quality experiences that cater to a wider audience. While the original Gardenvale Caravan Park held a more nostalgic charm, the BIG4 Gold Coast Holiday Park represents the evolution of holiday accommodation to meet modern needs and expectations.
Our Parks New and Improved
BIG 4 GCHP has expanded throughout the years, adding exciting new lodging options including adding all new modernized cabins, upgrading our camping sites, as well as entertaining amenities that the whole family will love! We aim to continue to add new and improved upgrades to the park to make sure we continue to be the best park on the Gold Coast! Our park offers a wide range of accommodation options, from basic campsites to luxury cabins. With the flexible accommodation options, it is suitable for all kinds of travelers, including family and couples. Some of our park's biggest/ popular attractions include a large swimming pool, water park, on-site cafe, eco – friendly playground, kid’s activities, dog friendly park and a variety of other amenities designed to entertain guests of all ages!

Fire Safety
Riverwalk campsites are permitted to use a brazier for an onsite fire. Every time you leave your campground alone, put out the fire; use water, not sand, as sand holds heat and can result in serious burns. In your vehicle or tent, never use portable gas appliances.
